This course offers undergraduate students an introduction to the study of domestic and international conflict. It aims to provide students with a foundation to understand when and why interstate and intrastate conflicts break out, why international cooperation succeeds under some conditions but not others, as well as contemporary threats to international peace and security. Students will learn about both canonical and contemporary theories of international conflict, the differences between different forms of political violence, as well as emerging threats such as drones and climate change.

This course offers undergraduate students an introduction to the nexus of pandemics and the social sciences. It aims to provide students with a foundation to understand the political, psychological, historical, and cultural dimensions and aspects of pandemics. Students will learn about different pandemics throughout history, how pandemics can and have been politicized, and how pandemics feature in pop culture.
